Summer Ideas for the Bored

Hi!

You are probably clicking on this thinking, “Man, it will be just another one of those posts that are great but I can’t do any of the activities!” but you are wrong. I understand that issue just the same as you and would like to help out.

Last year (Summer 2016) I created a summer bucketlist in the hopes I would do some of the activities but subconsciously assuming it would never work because of hassling my mom with driving me around or it was too expensive or it would get put off. But I spoke to her gently, I explained my frustrations of being at home every day in the summer and feeling bored. She turned out to be excited once she read the list and before I knew it a few days later we were already started on it. So, point being you should make a list of reasonable things that are fun and talk to someone, gather friends, put a smile on, pack a waterbottle and sunscreen and go! If you want ideas for a summer bucketlist keep reading on!!!

  • paint someone’s body or give temporary tattoos and drawings with body markers or regular markers (if you don’t give a crap about ink)
  • go on a boat on a nearby lake or ocean (your boat, a friends boat, rent a boat, grab some friends and family) and go swimming, inner tubing, wakeboarding, etc.
  • help someone paint a wall or room that needs freshening up
  • ride a train or a vintage train and take cool pictures
  • find a few cool pictures to remake with friends
  • go on a silly date (doesn’t have to be romantic) with a friend, sibling, parent, or whoever and hangout and enjoy eachother
  • help someone plan a bday party
  • go to a cool restaurant or dive nearby that could be old and awesome (I live in Washington so I went to Triple X Rootbeer which is an old burger joint with homemade root beer, or go to Soul Food Café where you can find good food and chakras – if you are into that-)
  • go to a parade/fair
  • go to a waterpark
  • go to a themepark
  • make weird recipes off of pinterest (watermelon pizza is a cool one to try)
  • visit a flower field (Skagit Valley Tulips are in Washington) or go to a botanical garden
  • add in a vacation if you can do that, if not no biggy
  • find a local ice cream parlor (Molly moon’s, Ferrells, etc.)
  • if you are artistic, set up a space in your room or home with good lighting and set up a messy old little spot where you can zone out and spill your thoughts out with paint or something
  • carve your name on a tree that may or may not be special to you
  • find a movie a lot of your friends have not seen and invite them all over to watch it with you and pop up popcorn and hand out candies and the whole shindig
  • float a river or kayak
  • if you are learning a language (for me I am doing French) then keep up with it
  • visit a cool dairy freeze (Scott’s dairy freeze)
  • visit a farmers market
  • go to a local family fun center or arcade
  • go to a mini golf center (if you are a more intense golfer visit a course or driving range
  • go on a bike ride
  • have a picnic
  • try crazy nail art
  • try a new healthy habit (take baby steps, I’m trying to take a walk every morning with or without my dogs)
  • visit a haunted house or some creepy place (Underground Seattle)
  • have an impromptu, silly, last minute, themed idea or weird thing (my friend came up with a last minute Russian lunch with costumes and music and all)
  • go to a swimming pool
  • have a spa day at home or at a spa place or something
  • make homemade ice cream/sorbet
  • paint pottery
  • watch fireworks (4th of July)
  • take a cooking class
  • go glass blowing
  • visit an old theatre and watch a matinee
  • try a strange food
  • help out or volunteer somewhere nearby
  • play pranks and jokes on someone who is a sucker for them
  • go against your fears

Be safe and get creative because looking back you might be pretty thankful you did these things and some of them are great to do repeatedly in one summer or multiple or whenever! You may discover more about what you like as well.
